The Important Version 5.3 Enhancements - Please READ
------------------------------------------------------------
- Configurable IRQ lines for communication ports 1-4.
- SysOp configurable time limits definable for each puzzle.
Shell and chat time *given back* if initiated while user
is working on a puzzle (ie: time limit doesn't run out).
- SysOp can now define HOW MANY times a user can play
each puzzle each day.
- Tele-Hang now can create a file which contains a list
of the words which were not accepted by the spell
checker. This file is definable in the SETUP program.
- Tele-Hang ALSO can now create a file containing a list
of all puzzles entered, who entered them, and how many
times the puzzle was failed. You may wish to post this
as a bulletin or just view it for your own interests.
This file is definable in the SETUP program. FYI, you
may change the header of this file once it is created.
- SysOp may also configure the minimum and maximum lengths
for each individual puzzle. No longer does it have to
be the same for all of them.
- Now each puzzle may have its own Supplementary Word List.
- /LOCAL switch now available which defaults to SYSOP.
- Users activated for the month and given champ points
if they get points for puzzles they entered last month.
- When playing puzzle in which user is current champ,
Tele-Hang now shows them the puzzle and times failed.
- Many of the file I/O's have been sped up, including
the supplementary word list scheme and lots more.
- Much of the excess ANSI output has been eliminated
speeding up output.
- The Tele-Hang bulletin now shows the record puzzle,
who entered it, and how many times it was failed.
- As a user's time is running down while solving a puzzle,
the bottom of the gallow now slips away under their
feet until - when all time is up, they get hung.
- The C)atalog option enhanced; more info (try it!).
- Last month's champ now shown in scoreboard (not just
bulletin).
- Pause during unregistered logoff screen eliminated.
- Line showing letters guessed not erased immediately
upon failing puzzle (in case you write it down).
- Removed BBS software specific names.
- Removed ANSI from LOG file (smaller, quicker).
- User may elect to not play a puzzle after seeing puzzle
info (ie: topic, time allowed, etc, which are also new
to version 5.1).
- Screen saves now not defaulting to BIOS... (oops)
- Corrected local mode not running on OPUS or Wildcat!.
- Corrected not being able to enter number 0 at the
play which puzzle prompt (found out from code, no
one reported this).
- On '7) Quit, Y/N?' prompt, TH now defaults to Y on return.
- The SETUP.EXE program has been rewritten and enhanced
to support the new features and more of the old ones.
- Adopt-A-DOOR is still available, but I want to remind
you how. Once Tele-Hang is registered simply create a
file called LIGHTS with the peoples names to be displayed,
each on a separate line in the file.
- Fixed a bug from version 5.1/2 which slowed down output.

UPGRADING:
From version 5.0 5.1 and 5.2:
1) Replace TH.EXE -> with TH53.EXE.
2) Replace SETUP.EXE -> with SETUP53.EXE.
3) Fix your batch file to run TH53.EXE not TH.EXE.
4) Run SETUP53 and set everything the way you
want it.
From version 4.0:
Delete all of your v4.0 files and replace them
with the files in this archive. You will have
to start over when upgrading from version 4.
INSTALLING FOR THE FIRST TIME:
Unzip TH53.ZIP into its own dir/subdir as usual.
Simply run SETUP53 to begin answering the necessary
questions. At the very least, you must edit the
info in the Toggles and File Specs menues.
To execute SETUP53, the syntax is:
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ SETUP53 <Config Filespec> {/S} {/BW} │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
<Config Filespec> is the name of the file that
will be created to hold the configuration info.
Example: SETUP53 HANG.CFG
The optional /S and /BW suppress sound and
or color (see TH syntax below for details).
≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ Running The DOOR ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡
Note: See example batch file included in this archive.
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ TH53 <Config Filespec> {/TEST} {/S} {/BW} {/LOCAL} │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The parameters /TEST, /S, /BW and /LOCAL are optional and
can be specified together in any order, one at a time, or none.
/TEST will cause Tele-Hang to create a file named OUT in the
current directory showing the output shown to the user.
Use this if you find a bug and want to report it to me.
/S will cause Tele-Hang to supress the sounds that it makes
in ANSI local mode. It will have NO effect on the sound
sent out the com port.
/BW will cause Tele-Hang to run without color on the LOCAL
side if you have a monochrome monitor.
/LOCAL will prevent the need for a door info file and default
to: LOCAL user named SYSOP in ANSI mode.

Note: Time left only changes time in door, not on BBS.
When in chat or DOS shell, the clock stops in the
door. Only when using PCBoard.SYS does it give time
credit back to the BBS.

≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ Dictionaries Available For TH ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡
Version 5.3 includes a small demo dictionary inside its archive
(50k words; 340,000 bytes). This dictionary, HANG.DIX, is large
but not large enough for most applications. I *WILL* be creating
a directory on my BBS which will hold other dictionaries. At this
time, I also *PLAN* on creating a combined (and huge) dictionary
which will only be usable on the registered version of Tele-Hang.
Large dictionaries (400,000+) will not function on version 5.1+
unless it has been registered. Hope to create a new sheme that
shortens the dictionary file length while adding more words.
The dictionary included with version 5.1 5.2 and 5.3 of Tele-Hang
will not work on version 5.0 and vice versa. They contain the
same words.
≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ Supplementary Word List Info ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡
The Supplementary Dictionary word list is simply that - a list of
words. It is a straight text file with the words that you want to
allow that the dictionary won't allow. Note: The speed should be
much faster in v5.1+ compared to v5.0 although still not as fast
as the dictionary file.
Version 5.3 of Tele-Hang allows both a COMMON word list as well
as individual lists for each puzzle. Hopefully this will expand
to individual dictionaries as well in a later version. The name
of the common list file is something you set in the SETUP53 File
Specs menu; use the Puzzle Maint menu to edit the individual puzzle
word lists (under Sup:). The words do not have to be in caps or any
alphabetic order. The supplementary dictionary is not designed to be
as fast as the .DIX file, and is just for small additions. If you
get a large word list going, upload or mail it to me, and I will add
it to the faster DIX dictionary file(s).
≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ Commonly Asked Questions ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡
"I am using a high speed modem, and Tele-Hang won't work. Why?"
- Go to the Locked Baud Rate option in SETUP53. Set it to the
locked rate of your modem (ie: 9600, 19200, 38400, etc)
"How do I set the topics so that they aren't always 'General'?"
- With the PUZZLE MAINTENANCE menu in the SETUP53 program.
"What causes the msg 'Only com 0-4 supported' when executing TH53?"
- Your BBS type is not supported or you have given the wrong
file spec for your door info file. Possibly try to use a
converter to make a DOORINFOx.DEF or PCBOARD.SYS file.
Please let me know if this happens!
"Why do my puzzles sometimes say they are locked?"
- A puzzle is locked whenever a user plays it, however it should
be UN-locked whenever they leave the puzzle and/or DOOR. You
may have had a fatal error such as not enough memory, or
insufficient disk space and it caused TH not to exit cleanly.
All known causes of this have been corrected in v5.1.
≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ Registration Information ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡
Tele-Hang v5.3 is distributed in its Unregistered form. It is
fully functional, therefore I don't consider it "Crippleware". The
registered version does, however, offer certain advantages. If
you find this DOOR enjoyable, you will want to consider upgrading
to the registered version.
For twenty-five dollars you will be able to turn your program
into the registered version. I can either mail you a disk or allow
you to download a simple 600 byte text file from my BBS. For
information about registering, please see the file name HANG.REG
included in the archive.
Listed below are some of the enhancements you will receive:
. A configurable number of active puzzles (up to 25).
. SysOp defined maximum puzzle lengths (up to 43 characters) as
well as individual topics, time limits, plays on each puzzle.
. You will also be allowed to download the latest versions
anytime off of my BBS with no upgrade fee!
≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ Registration Information ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡
With the release of Tele-Hang version 5.1, the registration fee
has increased from $20 to $25. For those who have registered
prior to this new release, there will be no upgrade fee (ie: the
registration is good for version 5.1+ as well as version 5.0). For
those sending in $20 after this release, a registration for version
5.0 (only) will be sent until an addition $5 (for download) or $7
for shipping is received at which time a version 5.3+ registration
will be made.
≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ Closing ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡
That's all there is to it...
I hope you find this enjoyable, and well worth registering.
See file named HANG.REG. Comments or questions? Call or write!
I also try to scan the FIDO and RIME door conferences for mail.
Lastly, let me take a line or two to send out my appreciation
to all who have registered and encouraged the creation of this
program. I thank each and every one of you.
